COMMODITY TRADING / FIRST

The market moves on voice.
The record needs to keep up.

For energy and agricultural merchants, commodity brokers and the teams responsible for the record behind the trade.

01 / DESK REALITY

Different conversations. Different paths.

01

Energy merchants

A bilateral ringdown, a broker call and an active power or gas hoot can reach different capture paths. Inventory endpoints and direction before treating one successful test as coverage of the desk.

02

Agricultural merchants

Origination, basis and logistics conversations span locations and counterparties. Identify approved channels and recording scope with the business, then test the paths used across those workflows.

03

Brokers and intermediaries

FCMs, introducing brokers and inter-dealer brokers have different activities and obligations. Map routing, transfers and recorded call legs to the relevant entity instead of assuming one rule fits every desk.

02 / OPERATIONAL SCOPE

From ringdown to retrievable record.

01

Ringdowns and bilateral lines

Test the agreed inbound and outbound routes, expected counterpart endpoint and both audio legs. A ringing line is not evidence that each leg reached the recorder.

02

Hoots and shared channels

Define the channel, authorized test window and expected participants. Test liveness and captured audio without disrupting the live market; record the precise channel tested.

03

Recording and archive operations

Link the call ID to the recording ID and archive reference. Separate missing audio, delayed ingest, denied access and a genuinely missing record so the right team receives the exception.

04

Review and follow-up

Assign an owner, attach the failed run, document the remedial change and link a fresh retest. Keep the original failure in history rather than replacing it with the latest green result.

03 / GET SPECIFIC

Bring one real path to the conversation.

Bring a redacted line inventory, voice and recorder versions, archive route, approved test windows and the people who own access. Agree what successful retrieval looks like before choosing a cadence. No production audio or credentials are needed in the website intake.

CFTC 1.31 and 1.35 are important starting points, not a blanket recording obligation for every commodity business. Confirm entity, activity, instrument, jurisdiction and retention scope with counsel.
